INTRODUCTION TO THE HEALTH AND SAFETY AT WORK ACT

  • 2021-05-27
  • 12:00 - 13:00

The Special Interest Group for Immigrant Engineers and the NZ Society for Safety Engineering are pleased to present this introductory session on HSWA, to provide an overview of the duty holders and their responsibilities and give attendees some familiarity with the core concepts of the law.

Engineer’s working in New Zealand are subject to the Health and Safety at Work Act (HSWA) in their engineering activities. HSWA defines a range of duty holders and duties, including duties owed to the downstream users of engineered artefacts, so it is important for practicing engineers to have an awareness of how these duties work.

The seminar will be presented by Joe Bain (CPEng), the Chair of the NZ Society for Safety Engineering. Joe’s day to day engineering practice centres on safety-critical engineering activities and he has previously been the presenter of CPD courses on HSWA and H&S by Design via Engineering New Zealand.
