Come along to get an introduction to the New Zealand Society for Safety Engineering and learn about Safety by Design from an industry expert. This presentation focusses on the underlying principles so that it is equally applicable to all engineering disciplines. The session will include a number of case studies, including an injury caused by a firewood processing machine that was the first upstream-duty prosecution under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Joe Bain (PhD, CPEng) is a Principal Engineer at JSK Consulting Engineers, where he specialises in industrial safety engineering for plant, equipment and machinery, and in seismic design of mechanical equipment. His day-to-day work involves design, analysis and certification of mechanical systems, risk management, and accident investigation.
Joe holds a PhD and an honours degree in mechanical engineering from Canterbury University. Joe is a co-founder of the NZSSE, served as the initial Chair of the society, and is currently serving on the committee. He has also previously served on the committee of the Maintenance Engineering Society of New Zealand, and on the Leadership Board of HASANZ.
