About Us
Founded in 2014 the New Zealand Society for Engineering Safety (NZSES) is a Technical Group of Engineering New Zealand.
In 2025 we changed our name from the New Zealand Society for Safety Engineering to more accurately convey our purpose and appeal to a wider audience whose professional activities influence health and safety outcomes.
The Society’s purpose is to introduce engineering principles and methodology to the health and safety process, and to introduce health and safety to the engineering process. The society has three main goals:
-
To foster safety best practice throughout the engineering profession, and to help engineers share expertise and experience in safety-critical functions.
-
To represent the engineering profession with bodies such as WORKSAFE and MBIE, to give the profession a voice in the development of regulations and practice guidance which affect engineers.
-
To provide a contact point for regulators and policy developers when technical expertise is needed to support their work.
Members of the NZSSE believe that as designers, project managers and reviewers of plant, substances and structures, engineers are in a pivotal position to influence health and safety in the workplace.
